On April 16th 2011 there was the barefoot seminar at the Boston public library downstairs in the auditorum. For you who are runners and have not read Born to Run by Christopher McDougall your only cheating yourself. The seminar was about 2 hours the had the author, guest speakers, and characters from the book. This seminar was not about persuading people to run barefoot nor was the seminar about what you should eat and not eat. It was about the passion for running in a different way then what you were taught. The first speaker was Dr. Lieberman who is the barefoot running professor at Harvard University, and she he did is talk barfoot. Dr. Lieberman had some really great information, so much that I will not even be able to scratch the surface of the information that he presented. If you get a chance please google him and read his work. The next speaker I wanted to touch on was Scott Jurek he is one of the runners in Born to Run, and also holds the United States record for 24 hour distance on all surfaces (165.7) which comes out to be around 7 miles an hour. After the seminar there was a meet and greet with Scott and Chris, and it was awesome. Chris is a great writer and one of the nicest people I have ever met. It is awesome to see someone get to do something that they are passonate about. Meet Scott was an awesome experience he is one of the people that I admire most in running right now. He runs unbelieveable distances and has won some of the hardest races out there, but yet he is very humbled by his fans, and loves to talk to anyone about running. He is my inspiration to take my running to the next level in distance running. Please go out and read Born to Run. Maybe that will be my first book review on this blog.
